You're either in the sales game already, or looking for a Professional Selling Career. But which industry do you choose and does it matter? You can sell anything from Coal to Diamonds and make a good living, but different industries will bring very different challenges and lifestyles. What you probably need to understand are the industry characteristics.
Some industries pay better than others, some demand a seasonal approach with varying degrees of activity at different times of year. Some require you to stay away from home more than others. Some selling is done predominantly at shows, whilst other industries demand a weekly call and daily 'slog'. Whether you favor 'Safari selling' (high ticket items, long deal gestation, lower frequency, predominantly Business to business [B2B]) or you prefer the more consistent 'Farmed' approach, it's as well to know what you're getting into up front, as it's sometimes difficult to change your mind and swap industries even after a relatively short period.
